Usherette Tray

Illuminated Cadbury's usherette tray, likely from the 1930s. The tray was found at Beamish Museum and was sent for conservation in order for it to be put on display and replicas made for the upcoming 1950s cinema. The tray was in poor condition- it was extremely dirty, there was mould growth, the leather strap was stiff and had detached, metallic elements were corroded, the metal lid of the light box was warped, and the electrical components were in a highly degraded state. A suitable treatment was designed to address all of these issues, and ensure the trays survival. It is currently on display in Beamish's open stores, awaiting the construction of the cinema.
